The Pogues
The Pogues are a London-based band formed in 1982 by Shane MacGowan, Spider Stacy and Jem Finer, originally performing under the name Pogue Mahone. The group pioneered Celtic punk, fusing Irish traditional instrumentation and songwriting with the energy of punk rock. MacGowan served as primary vocalist and songwriter until his death in November 2023.

About The Pogues
The band's core studio albums, Red Roses for Me (1984), Rum Sodomy & the Lash (1985) and If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988), established their reputation through the 1980s. Their best-known song, "Fairytale of New York" (1987), a duet between MacGowan and Kirsty MacColl, reached number two on the UK Singles Chart and has remained a perennial seasonal favorite.
Substance issues led to MacGowan's removal from the band in 1991; the Pogues disbanded in 1996, reunited in 2001, and dissolved again following guitarist Philip Chevron's death in 2014. Surviving founding members Spider Stacy, Jem Finer and James Fearnley reformed to tour again in 2024, continuing the band's legacy following MacGowan's death.
