Valija Zinck reads from her novel "Wandas Wunder – Der Sommer der flüsternden Wände" on 20 November 2026 at 15:00 at Hugendubel Berlin Gropius Passagen, Johannisthaler Chaussee 317, 12351 Berlin. The reading is part of the nationwide Vorlesetag. The book is a friendship story about an unusual summer, eccentric inventions and special abilities, for children aged 10 and over.
In the story, Wanda spends the summer holidays with her uncle Henry in Torfheim. On the train she meets a girl who promises to save her from dying of boredom. At the Torfheim platform she is met not by her uncle but by Oma Irma and three poodle ladies.
Henry has disappeared. Wanda and her new friend search for clues, and Wanda discovers she can walk through walls. Valija Zinck was born in 1976.
As a child she had three wishes: never to grow up, to live on a farm, and to become an actress. She studied contemporary dance and improvisation and worked as a choreographer and teacher of creative dance for children and young people. After having children of her own she began writing fantasy adventure books for children.
Her books have been translated into many languages and awarded prizes. She lives in Berlin with her husband and children. Advance registration is free.
