Die Brieffreundschaft II at Sophiensæle, Berlin

Die Brieffreundschaft II is a performance by markus&markus theaterkollektiv, presented in coproduction with Sophiensæle. It takes place on Sunday 29 November 2026 at 18:30 at Sophiensæle (Hochzeitssaal), Sophienstraße 18, 10178 Berlin. Tickets start at 25,00 €, and a reduced price is available.

The performance runs approximately 1 hour 20 minutes and is in German with English surtitles. Die Brieffreundschaft premiered in 2021, when markus&markus theaterkollektiv built up correspondences with four women serving life sentences for murder. Die Brieffreundschaft II shows what happens in five invisible years in prison.

Concept and realisation are by Lara-Joy Bues, Katarina Eckold, Markus Schäfer and Markus Schmans; set design by Konstanze Grotkopp and CassidyAndTheKid (2021); lighting design by Anahí Pérez and Rio Theis; voices by Marie Jordan, Ronja Losert and Laura Naumann; drawings by Rosanna Merklin; outreach by Daria Bertram. The production is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, MWK Niedersachsen, Stiftung Niedersachsen and Friedrich Weinhagen Stiftung.
