KOHLEGEISTER at Schaubude Berlin, 21 November 2026

KOHLEGEISTER, a material performance by KMZ KOLLEKTIV, takes place at Schaubude Berlin, Greifswalder Straße 81-84, in Berlin on Saturday 21 November 2026, 20:00. The piece runs 60 minutes and is performed in German, English and Spanish, with German and English surtitles. KMZ KOLLEKTIV follows the global energy links of black coal: since Germany's last hard coal mine closed, part of its energy supply has come from the El Cerrejón mine in Colombia.

The piece states that corporations are destroying Wayúu habitats, which according to Wayúu cosmology are also inhabited by spirits. KMZ asks what is actually imported along with the coal. With coal briquette pyramids, mirrors, drums and rituals, the collective makes contact and summons the spirits at Schaubude Berlin.

Performance is by Laia Ribera Cañenguez and Antonio Cerezo, with live music, composition and performance by Yahima Piedra Cordova. Tickets are priced at 25 euros (supporter), 18 euros (regular) and 12 euros (discounted).
