Richard III. at RambaZamba Theater, Berlin, 21 October 2026

Richard III. is a stage production at RambaZamba Theater in Berlin on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, at 19:30. Julia Wissert directs.

Tickets start at EUR 30, and a discount is available. Shakespeare's play was first performed around 1593. This staging challenges the long theatrical tradition of treating Richard's physical deformity as a symbol of moral corruption.

Together with the author Antigone Akgün, the team rewrites Shakespeare's text so that Richard's seizure of power grows out of exclusion, ridicule and structural ableism. Richard appears not as a demonic tyrant but as someone who takes by any means the participation that was denied to him. Julia Wissert focuses on the political dimensions: who has access to power, who may be visible, and what violence a society produces when it keeps devaluing its outsiders.

The text version sits between Shakespeare's rhythm and present-day exaggeration. The production is funded by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds and by the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt.

RambaZamba Theater is at Schönhauser Allee 36-39, 10435 Berlin. Its programme covers drama, dance theatre, performance, music events and visual art.
