Denmark is a low, sea-facing country spread across the Jutland peninsula and an archipelago of several hundred islands, linked by long bridges and a dense ferry network. Little rises above the fields, so the range here is coastal rather than vertical: North Sea dunes and wide beaches to the west, the tidal Wadden Sea to the southwest, and calmer Kattegat and Baltic shores to the east.
