Firenze
Florence crams the Duomo's terracotta dome, the Uffizi's Renaissance masterpieces, and Michelangelo's David into a compact centre you can walk end to end in half an hour. Ochre rooftops, artisan workshops across the Arno in Oltrarno, and the view from Ponte Vecchio at dusk still deliver the postcard version of Tuscany โ but the historic core is small, and in high summer it fills to bursting.
