Ancona
Ancona is a working Adriatic port and the capital of Marche, built on a hooked promontory where the cathedral hill looks over both sunrise and sunset on the sea. Its old streets mix a Roman arch and Renaissance art with ferry traffic to the Balkans, and the Conero Riviera's cliffs and beaches start just south of town.
