The Bluetones are an English indie rock band formed in Hounslow, West London, in 1993. The line-up is Mark Morriss on vocals, Adam Devlin on guitar, Mark's younger brother Scott Morriss on bass guitar, and Eds Chesters on drums. Richard Payne, on keys, joined between 1998 and 2002 and still regularly works and tours with them.
Before the band formed officially, all members except Chesters had been in a group called the Bottlegarden. The band's most recent album, Atlas, was released in May 2026, just under sixteen years after their previous album, A New Athens, from 2010. That album entered the UK Albums Chart at number one.
Its singles were "Bluetonic", "Slight Return" and "Cut Some Rug", and "Cut Some Rug" was released as a double A-side single partnered with "Castle Rock". In September 1996 the band released the stand-alone single "Marblehead Johnson". They then rehearsed new material at The House In The Woods in Bletchingley, Surrey, and booked Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales, to record a second follow-up album, Return to the Last Chance Saloon.
