Master of Magic: A Cult Classic 4X Strategy Game

Master of Magic is a single-player fantasy turn-based 4X strategy game where you play as a wizard aiming to dominate two linked worlds. Starting from a small settlement, you manage resources, build cities and armies, and research spells to grow your empire and defeat rival wizards.

Developed by Simtex and published by MicroProse for MS-DOS in 1994, the game is often described as a fantasy-themed spin-off of Civilization or Master of Orion. It has become a cult classic in the fantasy 4X niche, with its blend of city-building, exploration, and magical combat. The game features six schools of magic—Life, Death, Chaos, Nature, Sorcery, and Arcane—each offering unique spells and strategies.

Despite a buggy initial release, the last official patch (version 1.31) fixed many issues and improved the AI. The game was re-released on GOG.com in 2010 and later on Steam by Slitherine Ltd., which now owns the IP.
