The Comedy Store
The Comedy Store is a comedy club in Soho, London, opened in May 1979 by Don Ward and Peter Rosengard inside the former Gargoyle Club on Dean Street, after Rosengard was inspired by a visit to the original Comedy Store in Los Angeles. The venue relocated to Leicester Square in 1982 and moved to a purpose-built room on Oxendon Street, between Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, in 1993.

About The Comedy Store
The club became the focal point of Britain's alternative comedy boom of the early 1980s, launching an open-mic "Gong Show" format and the early careers of comedians including Alexei Sayle, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, French and Saunders, Ben Elton, Jo Brand and Paul Merton. In 1985 the improvised comedy troupe the Comedy Store Players formed there, later becoming known through Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
