In her mother's diary she discovers that three candidates come into question. She invites all three to the wedding, and the guessing game begins.

Donna's friends from earlier days arrive and memories of their time as the singing trio "Donna and the Dynamos" come alive again. The story is told through 22 of ABBA's biggest hits, among them "Dancing Queen", "Der Sieger hat die Wahl" (The Winner Takes It All), "Ich bin ich, du bist du" (Knowing Me, Knowing You) and "Mamma Mia".
